Dr. William Watson

Dr. William D. Watson, a board certified neurologist, is originally from Charlotte, NC, graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1984, was commissioned, and served a fleet tour as a west coast carrier A-6 Intruder bombardier/navigator.

 

Following shore duty as a Pensacola flight instructor, he attended the F. Edward Hebert Uniformed
Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD, graduating in 1997, and immediately
entered the graduate neuroscience program. In May 2000, he became the first combined M.D., Ph.D.
graduate in USUHS school history. He then completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Bethesda
Naval Hospital, followed by a 3-year Neurology residency at the National Capital Consortium, which
included Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospitals.

 

Remaining at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Dr. Watson served over time in many capacities, to
include: Department Chair, Associate Director of the National Capital Consortium Army and Navy
Neurology Residency Program, Chair of the IRB Scientific Research Panel, Neurologist assigned to the
USS Comfort, and Neurology Consultant to the Navy Surgeon General. In his second medical tour
assigned to USUHS faculty, he was promoted to Associate Professor and served as Vice Chair, then
Interim Chair of the USUHS Department of Neurology.


Upon military retirement in 2014, he accepted a full professor position at the University of Kentucky, also
serving as Director of General Neurology and Medical Director of the Kentucky Neurosciences Institute
(KNI) among other jobs.


In 2022, he joined the EMG Clinic A & W EMG Muscle & Nerve, PLLC as the Medical Director.
